Sunday Funday

Today my sweet hubby, our puppy, and I went to the Flea Market.  I have blogged about the glorious finds at the flea market before, today was no exception.  As we were walking through I noticed this horrible, hideous chest/trunk contraption.  It was sea foam green (which is a color I love, but not this particular shade) and it had the worlds ugliest fabric on top.  But I saw something that could be beautiful.  I went over to it and lifted the lid, it was in great shape!  The man came by and my hubs asked the price, $30.  Serial?  No one in their right mind would pay $30 for that hunk of junk.  Told him we would think about it and left.

We continued walking around the flea market and the conversation went a little like this:

Me:  Do you know what I could do with that?  I could make it into something beautiful.
Hubs: I am going to offer him $15 dollars for it.
Me: Good good, insult the man and we can get it for $20.
Hubs:  Yes, that's about right.

So we went back to the man, and sure enough it was still there.  So hubs offers $15 for the trunk and the man grabs his chest.  Haha!  He said, "I'll let you have it for $20"  SOLD!

So here it is, in all its seafoamy glory in my garage.  Just wait until you see what I come up with...

Finders Keepers

Look at this little gem that was sitting by the curb!  It is about a foot tall and I think it is made to hold scrapbook paper as that is what fits inside perfectly!

Of course, this is what it looks like after I took some Goo Be Gone to all the Lisa Frank unicorn stickers...

Reason 1,342,629 I love my husband, he never tells me I'm nuts and carried this home for me :)

Corkboard Redo

Here's a little tutorial to a corkboard redo I did!

Here's How I Did It!

1. Buy a regular corkboard from Walmart, Target, where ever. This was a large one from Walmart.

2. Gather materials needed to alter boring corkboard

3. Trim your fabric so that you have 1/2 inch more than the corkboard itself (not the frame, the fabric should on cover 1/2 the frame). Lay nice and flat. Lift half of it back and spray the corkboard with glue then press and smooth fabric out. Repeat for other half.

4. Take your paint scraper and press against the fabric, forcing it under the frame of the corkboard. This angled scraper worked much better than a flat one.

5. This is what it should look like when you pull the scraper back out. Continue to do this all around the board.

6. I didn't take a picture of the painting process, I was afraid to get paint on the ol' iPhone... but you get the idea, paint the frame. I had to rough up the frame because it is cheap laminated wood... if this is what you are working with, rub it with sandpaper. After 3 coats of paint it will be fine...

7. Step back and enjoy what 30 minutes and a little work will give you!

Chair Redo

I knew what I wanted to do with this chair from the moment I saw it at Goodwill for only $6.00.  Bonus, the wood was already painted white, one less step!  So I brought it home with high hopes for something better out of that old chair.

Well that chair set in my sewing room.  It held quilt squares, vinyl expressions, magazines, and other crafty odds and ends but I never got around to covering the cushion...

Until it snowed.

We were stuck inside for days due to the snowy weather, so I finished 2 sewing orders, tons of decorating and when I started putting away supplies and was organizing my sewing studio, I saw the chair.  Then I knew what had to be done next.

I turned the chair over and began unscrewing the four main screws that held the cushion to the chair.
Here it is with the cushion removed.
I then took the same flat head screwdriver that I removed the screws with and started to pop out the staples... There were a TON of them!
Then I laid the fabric out around the edge of the cushion so I would know how big my fabric needed to be.
I noticed when I took the dark blue fabric off of the cushion that there was paint on the green under fabric, this chair had been covered before!  So I took some extra white fabric I had in my stash and wrapped it around the cushion and stapled it around the edges as seen below.

Now for the decorative fabric.  I started with the straight back side of the cushion.  I pulled the fabric tight and put one staple in the middle.
I did the same thing with the front edge of the cushion.  Pulling the fabric very tight and putting one staple in the middle.  Then I began doing the same to the side of the chair.  The corners were a bit tricky, you had to fold the fabric over until there are no creases in the corner of the cushion.  As seen below.
Here is a close up of the corner.  It took a little time and patience to get it just right, but when you do staple quickly! :)
Here is what the cushion will look like when all the staples are put into place.  I took my scissors and trimmed around the fabric, so that the pre-drilled holes were visible and there was not too much bulk where I folded the fabric in the corners.
And here is the cushion!  Ready to go back onto the chair.
 Drum roll please...
Here is the finished product!  I think it took longer to upload pictures and do this blog post, than it did to recover this cushion!  Makes me want to go to Goodwill tomorrow!
