Judging a Book, uh, iPhone, by It's Cover,

So yesterday I posted that I got a new iPhone 4s.  I love it, its white, its fast, it has a great camera, etc, etc, etc.  But I have yet to find a case that I am in love with... so I turned to the internet!

Go Buy This Now!

This stuff is amazing!  Its $4.99 at Trader Joes.  All you have to do is bake it in the oven, toss with the delicious sauce that is included and serve over rice.  Dinner is done and you will be amazed at how wonderful it is!  They say it is their #1 best selling frozen food and I now know why!

Wowzers... Not for the weak stomached

This is my right hand pointer finger. It is hard to tell in this picture but that thread is inside my finger. I was sewing along and the machine caught my finger, went in and broke off. You can't see it in this picture but the very tip of the point is sticking out the other side. I quickly drove to the local urgent care, which said, "No way, go to the ER"

After waiting awhile I was given a few xrays. Here's the best one.

You can see the needle in the tip of my finger. You can't see it but it's still threaded and the thread comes out the other end. Insane.

So a TB shot was given and 3 painful injections of lidocane to numb my finger, thread trimmed even with my skin and my husband and I watched the doctor pull the needle out, still threaded.

Here it is...

For added gross factor, I was using white thread. It's red from blood.

A Day of Remembrence

10 years ago today I was in college, as a freshman I had only been at school a few weeks and it was my first experience being so far away from home.  I was sitting on my bunk bed eating Frosted Flakes before my class.  I always enjoyed watching the Today Show with Matt Lauer and Katie Couric.  As I watched they flashed to breaking news about something going on in New York.  They said a plane had hit one of the World Trade Center towers.  I sat there and watched and wondered, "How does that happen?".  I heard Katie Couric scream and watched in horror as another plane went into the towers.  I couldn't believe what I was seeing.  At that moment I picked up the phone and called my boyfriend.  I woke him up and just said, "Something is really wrong, 2 planes have hit the World Trade center buildings in NYC, turn on the tv"  He still has a scar on his hand from the hurry of getting out of bed to see what I was talking about.

I didn't know what else to do but call my family and go to class.  I remember feeling so lonely and scared.  I had already had a twinge of home sickness and then this was happening.  When I got to my science class we were told another plane had gone down in Pennsylvania and to go back home.  I had spoken with my family and had finally gotten in touch with my mom, who at that time worked at Fort Bragg.  They were on lock down and she didn't know when she could leave but to know she was safe.  For the rest of the day I did what pretty much everyone else did, I was glued to my TV.  I went to vigils and gatherings on campus over the next few days and became very attached to Appalachian State as it provided comfort and safety in such a scary time.

I never knew what people meant when they said they remember the exact moment when they heard about JFK being assassinated, I now know.  I'll never forget that moment and I will never forget the heroes of 9/11.

Sickly Saturday

I'm sorry I didn't get to post today but my baby has been sick.  No not a human infant but my sweet puppy dog.  I think she is starting to feel a little better but I am still keeping a close eye on her.

Paddle Faster

Today the hubs and I became adventurous and canoe the Haw River. This is a river in our local area and the tour included a nice southern style dinner at a vineyard when we finished. I just want to go on record as saying that I love nature and water but I do not love paddling a canoe. I think I'll stick to crafts and recipes :)

PS... This is also my 200th post! Wowzers!!!

Narrowing Down the Search

I think we've narrowed down our car search to two styles that are within our budget and we still get lots of bells and whistles that we want...

We are looking at an 08-10 Jeep Compass

And a 08-10 Nissan Rogue

Happy Retirement Mom

My mom is retiring at the end of the month and her work had a very special retirement luncheon for her today.  It was very nice to visit with mom's work friends and share this special occasion!
Here are a few iPhone quality pictures from the event.
 Here's my Mom and Daddy.

Here's mom receiving her plaque of service from her team leader.

Mom receiving a bald eagle statue, she worked for Fort Bragg so it was appropriate. :)

And being the crafty person that I am, I had to get a picture of the cake!  It was a chocolate-yellow marble cake with butter cream icing.  Yum!  My mom loves M&M's so this cake was her up one side and down the other.  Beautifully done by Extreme Cakes

Here's Mom's cake on their website :)

Lazy Sunday, well not really...

Hard to call it lazy when you and your hubs work all week, and then do weekend chores.  Actually, I did weekend chores, the hubby went to actual work (both days).  Its still nice to have these days though, even if they are busy with work and chores, its at your own pace and its not the regular 9-5, and there is always little fun at the end of each day (or a lot of fun :) )

Today, I did 4 loads of laundry and washed all the dishes.  Cleaned the kitchen, and put the laundry away.  Washed and vacuumed the car, cut out coupons, made my meal plan for the week, and went to the grocery store.  Now, I am sitting here blogging to you, thinking about all the other things that need to be done...

But they can wait.  Hubs is home and its a beautiful evening, perfect for a nice hamburger on the grill.  And that's just what we will do.

Happy Sunday everyone, enjoy every second!

Car List

I am hopefully in the market for a new car soon... I currently drive a 2000 Nissan Altima, that I was given by my mom and dad is 2003, Thank Mama and Daddy!  Now its 2011, and almost 180,000 miles later I'm ready for a little change.  Mind you that my car has no huge problems, same motor, transmission, etc, etc.  But that is kinda what worries me, I think I was to get out while the gettings good, if ya know what I mean.

So I have been collection information on what kind of car I would like to have.  This is a serious wish list people, I don't think we will get a brand new car, but it is nice to look :)  I know I want something a little bigger, more of a crossover rather than a SUV.  So here's the little list I came up with...

So the first on the list is the Cadillac SRX.

Then we have the Lexus RX350
Pic credit: www.carguides.com
I have always really liked the Nissan Murano
Pic credit: www.rimsorizer.com
 And the Nissan Rogue

It's more boxy, but I like the Chevy Equinox

So does anyone out there in blogland have a suggestion/comment?  We've only look at the pictures online, we have not test drove or sat in any of these cars.  I'll keep you updated on what happens :)
