Merry Christmas (in August)

I am in love with my newest quilt... It has 2 different types of quilting on it.  Stitch in the ditch around the polka dot and Christmas tree borders and stippling around all the letters in Merry Christmas.  I also appliqued every letter for Merry Christmas on the quilt.  I just love how it turned out.

I used lots of different prints for the front.  The red dots are Riley Blake
The back is just as cute to me.  I love those skating elves!  This is Ice Skating Elves in Moss/Aqua.  It is part of last years 12 Days of Christmas line by Moda.
Here's an upclose on the binding and elf print.

Friday Favorite 37

This week, my Friday Favorite is my own home state of North Carolina.  It really is a great place to live, with beautiful mountains and a lovely coast.  Currently, our coast and piedmont areas are feeling the beginnings of Hurricane Irene.  Thought and prayers are with everyone on the east coast as this storm passes through.

Stormy Sunday

I love a good thunderstorm.  Not tornado warnings, hail falling, trees blowing over storms but nice summer thunderstorms.  I've been sewing most of the day and really hope to finish my Merry Christmas Lap Quilt by the end of the night.  I am hand stitching the binding on now.  I find hand stitching the binding on so peaceful...

Friday Favorite 36: Fabric Designers

While at one of my favorite quilt shops stacking fabric I needed cut, I noticed something... I am drawn to certain fabric designers... I have fabric favorites :)

These 2 I've used recently are Riley Blake, love them!  Also the pirate fabric I've used is Riley Blake.

And you know that Robert Kaufman has to make my list for his Seuss line!

Tuesday Tip 36: Peace out Soap Scum!

Photo: RealSimple.com
Remove soap scum from a glass shower door by sprinkling water on a used dryer sheet and scrubbing.  I love the fact that it is a used dryer sheet, something you were going to throw out anyways!

Seuss on the Loose Complete!

It's complete and I am in love with it... So cuddly, colorful and cute!

I think I live the back just as much as the front.  Those reds and whites together just look so great!

Here's another up close of the binding, this time on the back.  I just love how the colors compliment each other.

And my faithful assistant checking out the craftsmanship...

Friday Favorite 35

Binding Clips in Action on my Seuss Quilt...
After taking a binding class last night I am going to have to say that binding clips are this weeks Friday Favorite!  These things are a million and two times better than using pins.  No bumps and lumps and best of all no pin pricks!  I love love love these clips!

You can find them at any craft store.  I used a 40% off Michael's coupon to get mine.  2 packs almost cover this whole lap sized quilt.  Might go ahead and pick up one more pack next time I have a coupon.

Binding Class

I took a class called Beautiful Bindings tonight at a local quilt shop.  Loved this class!  Learned how to do a blind stitch and have 1/2 of my binding attached to my Seuss Quilt.  So close to finished!
Binding attached to the front by machine...

Check out that blind stitch!  Bam!

I love binding clips :)

Tuesday Tip 35: Hanging Pictures

This is a wonderful blog post from Roost is one of the best ideas I've seen in awhile.  When I finally get the courage to hang pictures on the wall where the stairs are I will use this technique.  Genius!

A Lovely Trip

So my friend Sarah and I took a trip to one of our favorite fabric stores for their anniversary sale.  20% off everything!  So excited for the goodies I got!
Linderella's Quilt Works

I was able to get all the fabric to finish 3 projects plus 2 other little goodies.

A little table top quilt holder.  Perfect for small little applique projects from the pattern book I also bought.

Friday Favorite 34

Finishing Projects.  I have 3 things that all I have to do is quilt and bind (easier said than done).  So excited about having things so close to finished.  I have a binding class on Thursday where I will bind a small project in class so I know that one of these things will be completed this week!

Here's the String Quilt Top all together.  Just gotta put on a 3 inch border and then the top will be complete!

Merry Christmas Lap Quilt.  The top is all appliqued and I bought fabric for a skinny border and a wide border, the back and binding.

Dr. Seuss Quilt.  Got the backing and binding today and hope to get it quilted and bound at the class on Thursday night!

Tuesday Tip 34: Ruler in your wallet

Pic Credit: sewmanyways.blogspot.com
I found this great tip over at Sew Many Ways.
Did you know that US paper money is 6 inches by 2 1/2 inches (well, 6 1/8th if you wanna be precise)?  I can't tell you how many times I have wondered at a yard sale or thrift store how wide or tall something is!  This is a genius tip!
